Located
within the Gers you are spoilt for choice, halfway between the Mediterranean
and the Atlantic, providing the option of a day at the beach within 2hrs or
a day in the Pyrenees 1 hr away or simply laze the day away by the
pool at Mirabel.
There are 3 leisure lakes within 15 minutes of Mirabel,
the nearest only 1km away, which provide water slides, swimming, walking trails,
canoeing, rafting, leisure boat trips, horse-riding, pedaloes etc.
Golfers will delight in the choice of local golf courses, all un-crowded and beautiful, the nearest being 10 minutes drive away – see Golf Mirabel page for details.
The Pyrenees Mountains are an hour away, and offer great
areas of interest such as the observatory at Pic du Midi and the amazing Circe
de Gavarnie amphitheatre; white-water rafting, hydro-speeding, canoeing &
kayaking are available for the more adventurous (we can book these activities
for you if you want to pre-book).
The Tour de France rides through the region annually and for those of you who want to emulate your heroes why not cycle the Col du Tourmalet route whilst here?
The flora & fauna of the region is outstanding – Kites and Buzzards fill the skies, Migrating cranes fill the area in March & September and Lammergeiers are common place. The numerous Pyrenees National Parks play host to Egyptian Vultures,Golden Eagles and Wallcreepers to name just a few.
Skiing is available from December to March and the largest Ski area in the Pyrenees, La Mongie/ Bareges is just 1 hrs drive.
Fishing
The Gers offers excellent fishing for both the devoted and holiday novice. Salmon, Trout, Pike & Carp can all be fished locally and the fast flowing rivers in the Pyrenees provides a new challenge to all. – Licences are required and can be purchased locally.
The religious town of Lourdes is an hour away, well worth a visit to take in the sights and ambiance of this religious Mecca.
The Gers boasts 3 Thermal Spa Towns, Barbotan-les-Thermes, Castéra-Verduzan & Lectoure all which offer fantastic treatments using the healing water. Bagneres de Bigorre in the Haute Pyrenees, on the way to La Mongie offers fantastic day packages for everyone to enjoy.
